The lakes themselves sit behind small ridges just a few hundred metres from the sea. The algal communities grow in shallow, warm water and tend to form little bun-like shapes across the base of the lake.

After some wading, some chemistry and some baking heat though, it was back to our day off....I mean, science...checking the cohesive nature of the sediments...that sort of thing...
